Volunteer Counsellor

We have an exciting volunteer opportunity for those who are studying for a diploma in counselling or are qualified counsellors looking for an additional role and can spare a few hours for charity! We offer a regular counselling service for our clients and are looking for volunteer counsellors to run these sessions.

Job description:

We have an exciting volunteer opportunity for those who are studying for a diploma in counselling or are qualified counsellors looking for an additional role and can spare a few hours for charity!

We offer a regular counselling service for our clients with volunteer counsellors providing an initial 6 x 1-hour sessions per client. All clients using the service will be aged 18 or over.

Counselling sessions are used for a range of issues including (but not limited to) depression, anxiety, stress, confidence and self-esteem, relationship difficulties and non-complicated bereavement and issues related to loss.

The sessions are on a 1 to 1 basis and will be held at Arc’s head office in a private room, ensuring a safe and confidential environment. As the head office is only staffed during the week, the counselling will only take place on weekdays between 9am and 5pm.

Otherwise counsellors can be flexible on which days and times they hold their counselling sessions and how much time they commit per week; however, we would ask for the same commitment each week to provide consistency for the clients.

As part of the volunteering role, Arc will offer in-house training for:
Equality and Diversity
Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults
Professional Boundaries
First Aid Training

Arc will also pay expenses, such as travel to and from our head office and parking.

What we are looking for in a Volunteer Counsellor:
  • Counsellors must be either qualified to Diploma level or within the second year of their Counselling Diploma
  • Must have a DBS or provide their details for a DBS application (expenses covered by Arc)
  • Must be able to commit each week (exceptions of holidays, personal commitments etc)
  • Volunteer counsellors are expected to operate within the BACP guidelines.
