The Deposit Guarantee Scheme aims to support individuals into
private accommodation by providing a guarantee to a landlord instead of a cash deposit for those who do not have access to the necessary cash.
Referrals to the scheme can come from any agency or individual within the Sedgemoor or Somerset West & Taunton areas by using the form on the right.
If you are homeless or at risk of homelessness in the Sedgemoor area you will need to present yourself to the housing team at Sedgemoor District Council offices in Bridgwater who will make a referral to the scheme on your behalf.
The process for application to the Deposit Guarantee Scheme is quick and easy and, subject to certain criteria, we aim to give you an "in principal" approval within a matter of days and support you in your move to private accommodation.
The Deposit Guarantee will last for an agreed time (up to a maximum of 12 months) and act in the same way as a secured cash deposit.
During the period of the guarantee, the landlord and tenant are encouraged to work together to enable the tenant to save money in a secured deposit scheme to replace the guarantee at the end of the period.
